I don't see why ministers feel the need to intervene in such a local issue as council publications. Nor is it the job of communities secretary, Eric Pickles, and his ministers to be defending the local, often monopolistic, local media, most of which are plcs controlled by large companies. So, it is hardly surprising the DCLG select committee has come down against government plans to curtail council publications in its new revised code on publicity.
