£14m to improve Welsh councils' social care services

The Welsh Government has announced councils will get an extra £14m to improve social care services, as Whitehall pledged to devolve more powers to Cardiff. Speaking at a meeting of the WLGA council on 27 February, Welsh health and social services minister Mark Drakeford said the money will help local authorities implement the new Social Services and Well-being Act, which has an emphasis on early intervention. 'This hugely important £14m package of support recognises that further resources will be needed to deliver the transformation of social care services that we all agree must take place,' said WLGA spokesman for social services, Cllr Mel Nott. On the same day, David Cameron and Nick Clegg announced a new 'St David's Day' devolution agreement, which included powers for local government elections.
