Blaenau Gwent CBC is seeking to appoint a corporate director of education to take the lead in achieving an early exit from special measures. The South Wales authority is one of half a dozen Welsh councils whose education service is currently in special measures and has been in this position for some two years. Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, has scheduled three monitoring visits to assess progress at Blaenau Gwent. The first takes place at the end of the current spring term, the second this autumn and the third in the spring term 2015. The authority hopes the results of these visits will see the council's education service come out of special measures next summer so this is the main task the new corporate director will take on.
