Tory councils 'charging most' for parking

Conservative-led councils charge around one-third more for local parking than their political opponents, according to research by the Labour Party. Data obtained following Freedom of Information requests by the Labour Party suggests Conservative councils are on average charging the equivalent of almost ￡43 per local household each year, compared with Labour's ￡29.69. The national average charge across the 226 local authorities which responded - including 116 led by the Conservatives, 69 led by Labour and seven Liberal Democrat-run town halls - was ￡5749 Per household a year. Liberal Democrat councils bring in ￡39.08 on average, with hung councils securing around ￡34.41 annually.
