Authority will keep chief executive role

Nottinghamshire CC councillors have decided to continue having a chief executive after the retirement of Mick Burrows. A meeting last week was told that the 'vast majority' of county councils have kept the role despite some local authorities choosing to abolish the post. But councillors decided to slash the salary paid to the chief executive by £14,000, agreeing to the £170,000 figure proposed by officers. A report to the meeting said benchmarking had been carried out to 'ensure that the salary on offer is sufficient to attract the calibre of candidate necessary'. But the report added: 'However, it is also important to take account of the current financial position of the authority.'
