Members of Basildon DC meet today (4 December) to finalise its plans to form their own housebuilding company. The local authority's cabinet is expected to approve the plans to create Sempra Homes, which will initially aim to build 100 new homes in the borough. The new company will identify potential sites, such as dilapidated garage blocks and derelict buildings, and earmark them for development. According to a council report, with an initial investment of £200,000, the company will investigate and assess potential housebuilding projects on council-owned land. It has already pinpointed 10 sites and the new homes will be made available to local families as affordable rent, private sale or shared equity. The company will have a board consisting of Kieran Carrigan, commissioning director of resourcing and place shaping and Scott Logan, commissioning director for people and place.
