摘要

More than 35 councils have called for the Government's controversial new 'bedroom tax' to be scrapped, following a summit in Manchester The event on 7 June was organised by Manchester City Council and saw representatives from 36 different local authorities to discuss how the new tax was impacting residents. Labour members from Manchester, Bradford and Nottingham city councils, among others, expressed concerns about families being forced to leave their homes and how people have been getting into debt since the bedroom tax was introduced in April. The local authorities agreed to work with housing organisations to develop a set of measures to support residents who get into financial difficulty as a result of the changes to housing benefit.
