Councils warned over broadband funding

Councils that refuse to disclose how they will use cash earmarked for improved broadband services could be pushed to the back of the funding queue, it has emerged. Culture secretary Maria Miller recently wrote to all local authorities urging them to publish updates on how the roll-out of broadband in rural areas is progressing. Ministers have made £250m of BBC licence fee cash available to fund broadband for the most rural areas of the country, and want businesses to know whether they will be covered by upgrades.
