Consultation has begun with local authorities on a series of measures being introduced under the new Legal Aid and Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act (LASPO). When it becomes law next spring, a key change will see local authorities assume greater financial responsibilities for young people remanded in custody in an effort to incentivise effective oversight by Youth Offending Teams (YOTs).
