Chiefs slam 'anti-localist' procurement proposals

Council chief executives body, SOLACE, has rejected the Government's consultation on standardising public sector procurement arrangements as 'anti-localist' and inapplicable to local government. Under proposals contained in last month's Cabinet Office consultation on making it easier for small firms to win a greater share of the £230bn spent annually across the public sector on goods and services, government suppliers could expect a single set of standardised procurement arrangements. Among other measures proposed, all government contracts worth more than £10,000 could be searchable within a single website and time-consuming pre-qualification questionnaires scrapped for low value deals.
