From early on 6 May, I watched countless hours of commentary and analysis on the local elections, flicking between BBC and SKY news channels. Ministers, Opposition MPs and their pensioned-off predecessors held forth. Maybe I drifted off, but not once did I see anyone from local government giving their views. No council leader sat round the Dimble-by table, speaking with knowledge or experience of local government, or just how mould-breaking the results were.
