Some of the poorest regions in England have missed out on millions in European development cash after the Government blocked them from applying for the windfall. Ministers opted to allow only the UK's devolved regions to spend 'extra' EU cash available following the decrease in the value of the pound, which has increased the value of EU regeneration grants by around 20%. European ministers recently extended a deadline for regeneration funding applications as part of a £18obn plan to stimulate the Continent's ailing economy.
