Luton Council has called in the local police force to investigate how callers to its telephone lines were transferred to unauthorised numbers over the Christmas break Police officers are investigating whether criminals tampered with some of the council's BT phone lines to obtain residents' personal details for fraudulent purposes. Callers to the council's main switchboard were diverted three times over the festive break. The issue only came to light when council officials noticed there had been a significant reduction in successful calls to the authority.
