Life as a district council chief executive often serves up the unexpected. The recent furore surrounding investments meant a quick lesson in investment policy, practice, the financial markets and related subjects, was required. Councillors and the public wanted to know 'their' money was safe, and that the chief executive had his finger on the pulse. Being a strong advocate of continuous development, I had no problem with this event and expectation. I took some time out to spend with my children, and they were showing me how much could be gained from using the Internet -something, sadly, which developed 'slightly' after my time at school. Nevertheless I, too, found the Internet invaluable in my quest to gain more knowledge of the financial markets.
