Ministers have dumped business services contractor Liberata from a flagship education contract, after 'totally unacceptable' delays to grant payments - the latest blow to the struggling firm. Schools minister, Jim Knight, confirmed on 19 November that Liberata had been stripped of its contract to deliver Education Maintenance Allowances. The contract will be switched to a rival firm, Capita, and Liberata stands to lose around £60m. Liberata has struggled with EMA applications and payments to students since it landed the contract in June 2007.
