Calderdale MBC is poised to give the go ahead for a controversial £10m plan to boost parking spaces in its town centre - a move which could be deeply unpopular with residents. Local planning officials have effectively approved the development in Hebden Bridge, which also includes plans for residential and retail units, offices and public amenities. Local residents, however, have vehemently opposed the scheme - and developer Studio BAAD and its architects have even received death threats as tempers have frayed. Many residents have voiced concerns over the scale of the scheme, and its modern style, which they believe would not complement the historic town centre. As The MJ went to press, Calderdale's councillors were expected to give their final approval for the scheme.
