I fa week is a long time in politics, then a year is an eternity - and for the Thames Gateway project, the times have changed for the worse. The combination of economic meltdown, a new mayor, a cabinet reshuffle and a chief executive lost to political feuding have left many questioning whether the Gateway initiative will survive, let alone deliver anything like the grandiose vision set out by prime minister Gordon Brown last year. At the time, Mr Brown delivered a keynote address to the Thames Gateway Forum, describing regeneration of the Thames Estuary as a 'historic endeavour'. He set out a vision of 'thriving communities with new homes and new jobs, in a better and more sustainable environment.'
