Epping Forest District Council is a medium sized Authority that contains a mixture of towns and rural areas, all of which are in the Metropolitan Green Belt. It has long been a challenge for us to defend the District, and for the City of London to defend the Forest, whilst providing for the conservation of historic features, as well as providing necessary local development, but the agenda is changing with the approval of the East of England Plan. We not only need to continue to defend much of the existing character, but we are being expected to engage in the development and regeneration of Harlow, which will bring more jobs and homes to the area. We are also expected to deliver that quickly, but set against a backdrop of needing more infrastructure, and for that infrastructure to be developed at the right time to secure genuine sustainability. We are developing briefs to deal with particular local challenges, including some areas of deprivation. We have also been required to provide a Development Plan Document concerning provision for gypsies and travellers, and are in the early stages of producing our Local Development Framework, so your ability to influence this positively is timely.
