Benefit claims rise 400%

New claims for Universal Credithave increased by at least 400% inthe past two months, new figureshave revealed. Analysis by theInstitute for Employment Studiesshows 1.4 million people madea claim for Universal Credit inMarch, compared to the averagemonthly figure of 235,000 theprevious year. The institute saidthe figures show that action onjobs is needed now. It is callingfor a ‘COBRA on Jobs’ to bringtogether Government, employersand civil society.
