Cabinet Office minister Chloe Smith has vowed to push ahead with compulsory voter ID pilots in the face of fresh calls this week.More than 20 major charities and pressure groups wrote to Ms Smith, urging her to suspend the initiative following trials at May's local government elections. Signatories included the human rights campaign group Liberty, the Electoral Reform Society, Age UK and Centrepoint.
