£3m shortfall forces councils to consider merging

Two district councils in Somerset are facing a combined budget shortfall of more than £3m by 2020, prompting councillors to consider a full-blown merger. According to a business case that will go before members of Taunton Deane BC and West Somerset DC later this month, both local authorities are facing growing budget gaps in the next five years.
