The chair of the Core Cities group has called for a new approach to devolution in post-Brexit Britain. Writing in the foreword to a new report on whole-place leadership, Leeds City Council leader, Cllr Judith Blake, said while devolution has brought 'positive change', more must be done to 'go further than the current piecemeal, deal-based approach'. Cllr Blake added devolution on its own will not 'meet the challenges the UK now faces, unless we are as a nation able to enact truly local, place-based approaches'. She added that in a post-Brexit environment, cities 'are more important than ever' and can find local solutions to problems like productivity, homelessness and skills.
