Exit payment caps may prompt legal challenge

The Government could face a legal battle if it continues its push to cap exit payments for local government employees, the council chief executives union has warned. In a scathing response to the proposals, the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives (ALACE) threatened to take the Government to judicial review if it ploughed ahead with the 'ill-considered' plans, which will see the exit payments for public sector workers capped at £95,000. ALACE claimed the plans were 'discriminatory, unworkable and potentially illegal'. Its response read: 'ALACE has grave misgivings about the legal soundness of these proposals and will be seriously exploring -potentially in conjunction with other trade unions - the scope for legal action, including judicial review.'
