The effectiveness of accountability arrangements of local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) will be scrutinised in a future report by the National Audit Office (NAO), The MJhas, learned. A spokesman for the NAO said the work was in its 'very early planning stages' and there was no date scheduled for publication. Alex Pratt, former chairman of the management committee of the LEP Network, acknowledged LEPs had a 'democratic deficit', adding 'you can't spend taxpayers' money and not be held accountable for it'.
