Local Government Association chairman Cllr David Sparks has backed plans to implement the 'leanest management structure in the country' at his council. Senior Dudley MBC councillors have approved the halving of senior management positions from 22 to 11 to save around £1m.Opposition members said the council could save up to an additional £300,000 by not increasing the salaries for the remaining management positions. But deputy leader Pete Lowe defended the pay rises, pointing out the reduced number of senior managers would be 'taking on additional work and responsibilities'.
