Funding accountability fears raised for DCLG

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) must rise to the challenge of ensuring financial accountability as councils shift towards pooled public service budgets, a spending watchdog has warned. A report issued this week (25 June) by the National Audit Office (NAO) looked at £36.1bn of grant funding from eight government departments. It found that in 2013/14, only £3.2bn grant funding was ring-fenced, reflecting the coalition's commitment to cut ring-fenced grants.
