Most people 'unaware' of looming police vote

Less than one-quarter of voters are aware that ballots for elected police commissioners will take place in a year's time, according to new research from the Local Government Association (LGA). An opinion poll undertaken by ComRes for the LGA, shows that just 23% of voters are aware that elections for Britain's first elected police chiefs will be held in November 2012 - although 69% of people said they would vote. The survey also found that 71% of people thought damping down on anti-social behaviour should be one of the top three priorities for the commissioners. More than 40% of respondents said they could be swayed to vote for a candidate if they pledged to work alongside other public services to deliver improvements.
