Scottish councils are scrambling to fill their top posts after Midlothian Council and North Ayrshire Council became the fourth and fifth councils to announce their chief executives are to quit. North Ayrshire Council's chief executive, Ian Snod-grass, is to retire in August after five years in the post and 40 years in local government. Trevor Muir, chief executive of Midlothian Council - and the longest-serving in the UK - is to leave in July.
