Denbighshire County Council is to appoint a chief executive to steer the authority through its improvement programme and take charge of issues raised following a corporate governance inspection late last year. The largely rural north Wales authority is currently finalising its plans to improve strategic direction with clearly defined outcomes and a review of support services to align these more fully with a customer-focused environment. 'Performance has improved steadily over recent years and we are now looking for a chief executive who has the energy and commitment to accelerate this improvement,' says council leader Cllr Hugh Evans. Denbighshire is a diverse and highly attractive county ranging from rural villages in the south to large towns along the north coast. 'Many areas are prosperous but there are also pockets of significant deprivation,' says Cllr Evans. "The chief executive will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to recognise this diversity and work closely with elected members to deliver services that meet the needs of the different areas bringing the council closer to the community.'
