I was struck by Jan Parkinson's recent article, How the Six 'R's can help you meet the job cuts targets, in The MJ recently in which she talked about the Local Government Employers(LGE) debate on how to best manage and transform the workforce during this unprecedented period in local government. To recap the six 'R's in Jan's article: -Redundancy - the least palatable of the LGEs' six Rs. Some job losses are inevitable, but it is argued when used in conjunction with the other five Rs ought to keep job losses as low as possible. Reorganisation - the development of new business units to manage services with pooled budgets in areas which have not been considered before, and perhaps non-traditional partnerships.
