Bin chips are 'there to provide a better service' says LGA

The Local Government Association (LGA) has defended councils' use of microchips in rubbish bins.A total of 68 local authorities in the UK are now usingchips in residents' bins for around 2.8m households.An LGA spokesman said the chips merely identified the house to which the bin belongs. 'They do not meancouncils can analyse what people are throwing away or issue fines,' he said.
