Portsmouth City Council is seeking a new head of education who will take charge of raising aspiration and academic achievement which has been low historically. 'Attainment levels are the major challenge,' says director of children's services Julian Woost-er. We are looking for a person with good leadership skills in what is no longer a traditional managerial role but one where they will be working closely with school heads and governors, with the Children's Trust, businesses and other stakeholders.' He adds: 'What we are looking for is what I call system leadership.'
