City folk keen to leave

Maybe it was last weekend's urban riots, or perhaps it's some innate desire to bond with nature - who really knows? But the good burghers of Portsmouth and Southampton certainly seem in a hurry to flee their cities and find solace in the rolling green hills north of their metropolitan boltholes. The two authorities last week announced they have joined forces with Hampshire CC to establish a residents forum -designed to improve local access to the countryside. Forget rural flight - the good city folk can't leave the coast quickly enough and want to improve travel times to the safety of a field. Diary thinks this says very little about Southampton and Portsmouth - fine cities, both...
