The LGA has urged the Government to put local communities 'in the driving seat' with its plans to reform the NHS. Responding to the Government's listening exercise on the Health and Social Care Bill, LGA chairman, Baroness Margaret Eaton, said the proposed legislation was a 'great opportunity' to integrate health and social care. The Baroness said that GPs needed to have a legal duty to co-operate with the new health and wellbeing boards which, she said, would help guarantee accountability and ensure the process was as open as possible. 'Local communities need to be in the driving seat with health. It's their needs and concerns which should shape services.' she said.
