CIPFA reveals 4.5% cut in library services

The speed at which local communities are losing their library services is increasing, with hundreds axed last year, a UK-wide survey has revealed. Research by CIPFA reveals that 201 public library 'service points' - which include mobile libraries and buildings - were shut down during 2011/12. That represents a 4.5% decrease in UK library services and compares with the 3.2% decrease in 2010/11, which equated to 146 library services.
