Social issues pose a long-term problem

I very much welcome the belated realisation by the public sector that early intervention upstream saves money downstream in reactive spending but I question why it has taken so long to reach this point.The launch of the new Early Intervention Foundation by the Prime Minister (The MJ, 18 April) is definitely a step in the right direction to get to the roots of inter-generational social problems which are so burdensome to the taxpayer.
