Council in bid for MoD centre

Telford and Wrekin Council is hoping to entice the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to site its new Logistics Centre of Excellence within the borough -amid talks defence chiefs intend to wholly outsource military equipment provision to the private sector in a world first.The authority has written to ministers making the case for the next Logistics Centre and related Defence Gateway to be relocated to a plot next to the current MoD Donnington site.As part of its offer, the council - which believes it could help the Treasury generate significantly higher capital receipts across the defence estate - is prepared to hand over at no cost 19 acres of land lying adjacent to the site which is fully services by the Telford International Railfreight Park.
