Staff morale is not a problem in Devon

Head of human resources Devon CC The article 'Leadership in an age of austerity' (The MJ, 31 May), written by Matt Gascoigne, which painted a picture of low morale, long hours, and a lack of strong leadership among the UK public sector. I must admit that if any of our employees read his article, their morale would dip, as dearly Mr Gascoigne's pot is half-empty! Could he please define which parts of the public sector he is referring to, and how many organisations took part in his research? Here at Devon CC, our staff survey has produced some of the best comments from recent years concerning how staff feel valued during these difficult times, and how our leadership is giving out frequent and clear messages about how we intend to manage the un- certainty that lies ahead.
