Sita secures £1 bn waste bid

The Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority has appointed Sita as preferred bidder for a £1bn deal.The contract is on behalf of the Mersey-side and Halton Waste Partnership and aims to achieve £145m of savings over its 30-year lifespan.Under the agreement, the waste authority will divert more than 90% of Merseyside and Halton's residual waste away from landfill.Sita's winning bid includes an energy from waste facility with combined heat and power at the Wilton International site in Teesside, which will create around 50 new jobs and a new rail hub to transport waste at the Potter Group Rail Freight Terminal at Kirkby.
