Latest figures from East Northamptonshire Council show the authority's new recycling scheme has dramatically reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by thousands of tonnes in just a few months. Cllr Glenn Harwood, waste project board member, thanked residents, saying they had saved the council £2oo,oo in landfill taxes. The scheme was introduced in August 2011, allowing residents to recycle more, with food waste collected separately. Between August and December that year, the amount of landfill waste dropped by 4,100 tonnes compared with 2010.
