Government set to meet SME contract allocation

Government remains on track to meet its target of awarding a quarter of all business contracts to small firms, either directly or indirectly, recent statistics have indicated. Figures released by the Cabinet Office on 8 August show central government's direct procurement spend with Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has increased from 6.5% in 2009/10 to 10.5% in 2012/13-a £1.5bn boost in outlay from £3-4.5bn.
