Welfare reform has been hitting the press with a vengeance over the last few days. However, the debate seems to have polarised depending upon which particular newspaper you read. The real low point was when the welfare reform debate was linked to the tragedy of the death of six children in a house fire. It is easy to just view this as nothing more than we would expect and of no importance to the long term fiscal position of UK Plc. However, if we are to have any proper debate about the size of the state and public expenditure it is important that issues such as welfare reform are reported and discussed in a more balanced way.
