Middlesbrough Council's directly-elected mayor has announced plans to bring at least 350 staff back in-house from the local authority's partnership with Mouchel. Ray Mallon announced the move as part of a wider set of budget proposals on 22 October, which will save the council a total of £14m in 2015/16. In his report to councillors, Mr Mallon said at least 350 staff will TUPE transfer back to the council. He also announced around 200 council staff will also transfer out from the local authority to other organisations. 'In an ideal world, we wouldn't make any of these cuts and I have stated from the outset that they are too deep and too savage,' said Mr Mallon. 'The emphasis now is on minimising the impact on frontline services and making the most effective use of the resources available to us.'
