One main topic has exercised Diary's mind this week - the ice bucket challenge. By the time you read this, Birmingham City Council chief executive Mark Rogers may well have acted on being nominated. But at the time of writing, Leeds City Council's boss Tom Riordan was thought to be the first and only local authority chief executive to undergo a soaking on film while Brent LBC's cabinet also took a dousing (see page 5). The chorus of demands for Mr Rogers to follow suit has perhaps been strongest from within the city's own Council House. Mr Rogers - clearly busy running the council - initially pleaded ignorance of the social media craze, tweeting: 'Sorry-what's being cooked up here please?' Birmingham's head of strategic development Richard Kenny insisted he was willing to take up the challenge himself but claimed Mr Rogers would generate a larger crowd.
