The leader of West Sussex CC is to start a public debate on a unitary authority for the county, following a council vote. Two motions were put forward at the full council meeting on 13 February about unitary authorities. The first was put forward by local UK1P group leader, Cllr Mike Glennon and was defeated by 51 votes to 10, but the second, by Liberal Democrat group leader, Cllr James Walsh, was carried following an amendment by council leader, Cllr Louise Goldsmith. Under the amendment, Cllr Goldsmith will 'initiate a public debate' on the issue, which will involve residents, partners and other stakeholders.
