Simplifying procurement will assist business bids

The local government minister has pledged to make the procurement process fester and less bureaucratic as business bosses illustrate how councils can improve the process. Speaking in the House of Commons last week, Marcus Jones said Whitehall was committed to working with the Local Government Association to .identify ways of removing 'excessive burdens' on small businesses bidding for council contracts. The minister's comments came as the new leader of Birmingham City Council, Cllr John Clancy, praised the role small and medium-sized businesses can provide in delivering extra value for communities as a total of 37 organisations and firms were awarded the Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility.
