Scotland's 'Carbuncle' Awards, an annual contest to find the nation's ugliest building and most dismal town, have been unsurprisingly ditched. The publishers of the awards scheme, in reality designed to promote high-quality regeneration, feel it is no longer appropriate to single out struggling communities during these times of austerity - and plan to replace the annual shindig with something more positive. Past winners of the awards include Lanarkshire Council - home to two times 'winning' town Cumbernauld - this week celebrated their withdrawal.
