Many of us will have used the Dartford River Crossing toll system as part of our holiday journey with our family. In making this journey, UK drivers will have been paying a toll charge for each crossing. For UK drivers who have not paid the toll, there is a fine of up to £105. It has been reported there are almost 228,000 overseas visitors that have also used this toll road over the past four months and have evaded the charge -that's one in four that don't pay. This is both unfair on British taxpayers, but also disappointing, given that the automatic number plate recognition system was introduced to improve toll collection and traffic flow. Neither of these objectives appear to have been achieved.
