Whitehall action to prop-up social care providers has been criticised by local government's largest trade union. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) last week announced measures to suspend backdated minimum wage payments for social care 'sleep-in' staff. An employment tribunal recently ruled that night care staff should receive hourly minimum wage payments, even covering the time when they are asleep.
