Councils hit with burden of creating rates relief schemes

District councils are having to come up with separate discretionary business rates relief schemes with little guidance from the Government. Councils around the country have had to dedicate staff time to design their schemes and spend money updating software. The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has confirmed it intends to provide new burdens funding to local authorities to 'deal with the reasonable additional costs of delivering that support'.
